Odors take us to our memories

The connection between smells and memories, especially those from our childhood, is so interesting. Even a slight smell that you barely catch can bring back memories or make us feel strong emotions.

While the smell of a cookie can take you to your grandmother’s cute kitchen, the smell of a flower can remind you of your first day in primary school. When I find a scented eraser that has a familiar odor from my childhood, I get very excited as if I can go to the past, see myself as a child, and come back in a second.

An article published in the Harvard Gazette, with the title “What the nose knows”, on this subject presents interesting information about this connection and its effects from various perspectives.
